Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sewccessful?

Sewccessful is a home-based alteration shop located in Greater St. Louis, Missouri. I offer alterations, mending, custom sewing, and other arts and crafts requests such as crochet, oil paintings, etc. Sewccessful is operated by one person and is a minority-owned, woman-owned small business. We have received 5-star reviews on Google and 5-star reviews on Facebook.

What services you offer?

If you need to inquire about custom work, please contact me via email at sewccessful@gmail.com to discuss the process. It would be helpful if you could include photos of your project ideas. I am able to handle a wide range of sewing tasks, both hand-sewn and machine-sewn.

How much does alteration cost?

Please take a look at our price guide, Sewccessful - Price Guide to see the estimated cost of alterations for your garment.Keep in mind that the cost can fluctuate based on the material chosen and the complexity of the design. If the specific alteration you need is not listed, it will cost $25.00 per hour, not including the cost of materials. A non-refundable down payment is required for materials; alternatively, customers may supply their materials, or the cost will be included in the final bill if I can afford to cover the cost of the materials. Pressing and steaming services are charged at $0.35 per minute. There's also additional charge for rush work.

What are your business hours?

Business hours are Tuesday to Friday, 2 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm, excluding holidays. I offer porch drop-off and pick-up services every day. You can leave or collect your garments from the storage bench on the porch, provided that you make your payment online via Cash App, Zelle, PayPal, or in cash when I'm present.

What is your contact information?

I prefer to communicate via email, text, or Facebook chat. Calling is not preferred as I may not be able to answer due to assisting other customers. If you do call, please leave a voicemail, otherwise, I will assume it's a robocall. To maintain a healthy work-life balance, I try to avoid responding to inquiries after business hours whenever possible.

Do I need to make an appointment, and if so, how do I do it?

If you need to be fitted, I highly recommend making an appointment as we only have one fitting room. If you don't need to try on clothes, please consider utilizing the porch drop off and pick up service, where you can deposit or retrieve your garments from the storage bench on my front porch. The easiest way to make an appointment is to do it online at Calendly - Sewccessful where you can see available days and time slots that work best for you. If internet access is unavailable, you can send a text message to schedule an appointment for assistance. Please be aware that when we schedule an appointment for you it implies your acceptance of our terms of service. If you are arriving with a large group requiring alterations, kindly schedule several appointments to ensure sufficient time is allocated for each individual.

How to reschedule or cancel my appointment?

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment by accessing the appointment confirmation email sent by Calendly when you made the appointment. You can also text me to reschedule or cancel the current appointment, or you can cancel the appointment and make a new one.

What is the Turnaround time?

Please note the following turnaround times and rush options for our services:

Standard turnaround time: 3 weeks or 15 business days.

Rush options with additional fees:

- 1-hour rush: Additional $25.00 rush fee. (only for items that can be done within an hour)

- 24-hour rush: 50% rush fee.

- 1-week rush (5 business days): 25% rush fee.

- 2-week rush (10 business days): 15% rush fee.

Please be aware that the turnaround time may increase for more difficult or the more items you bring. For wedding dresses, we recommend bringing your dress at least 6 weeks before your wedding to ensure we have enough time for adjustments.

What if I'm dissatisfied with the work or change my mind after the garment has been altered?

I provide a one-time free adjustment for every garment or item I tailor. If you are dissatisfied with a specific part of the garment/item that was not addressed during the fitting, an additional fee will be incurred. Should you decide to change your mind following the fitting appointment and if your garment remains unaltered, it will be necessary to arrange another fitting appointment to modify the measurements accordingly. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate changes after alterations are made, as it is beyond our control. If we are responsible for the issue, we offer a discount only on the specific altered portion of the garment in question. Our terms of service, to which you consented at the time of scheduling an appointment, provide us protection in this matter.

Is your shop accessible for individuals with disabilities or those with mobility issues?

Regrettably, my home isn't wheelchair accessible, but I can meet you in the driveway; there's no need for you to exit your vehicle. If measurements are necessary, I can take them from clothing that already fits you well—simply bring those items with you.

What payment methods are accepted?

I prefer payment by Cash, Cashapp, or Zelle. Cards and Paypal will incur a 4% fee. I do not accept Venmo or check payments.
